Hello, my name is Simon. I am a London based artist and arts educator, who has reignited my art practice in the last 10 years. My practice and current interest in drawing and painting began it’s development at Manchester University’s Art Department, between 1993-96. My experiences during my degree drove me to deepen and solidify the process of painting and drawing and of studio practice.
When I paint and draw, my core intention is to find a tension between figuration and abstraction. I do this by layering, scrapping and scumberling, using washes and impastos, on paper or canvas, until the image becomes a record of my methods and mark making that hints at the back and forth “conversation” I have with my subject, materials and composition.
I explore what happens in the act of looking; the creation of the image/idea I have chosen; and the tension found when actually painting and drawing the composition.
I enjoy using western Fine Art approaches to record my experience of my domestic environment. My current artistic concerns involve engaging with my environment, and the people that dwell within it, in an authentic way.
I hope you enjoy my efforts and if you have a mind to do so, you can contact me through the contact page.
Thank you for your time and I hope to hear from you soon.
